The seed that led to Caribbean GreenBikes’ creation was planted in the summer of 2007 in the midst of a European backpacking trip, when founder, Ricardo Rios, stepped off a train in Vienna and saw a innovative bicycle station. After approaching the bicycle station’s kiosk screen, he discovered that it was actually a bicycle rental sharing system. Ricardo and fellow backpackers, Antonio and Jose, each rented a bicycle for a modest fee and freely roamed and explored Vienna’s many attractions.
The backpacking crew found this experience to be liberating, enjoyable, and highly recreational. Conveniently seeing the entire city at their own pace was exactly what the group wanted to do.
Then and there, Ricardo Rios decided to create Caribbean GreenBikes, a company whose goal would be to bring bicycle-friendly infrastructure solutions to Caribbean communities for tourists and residents to enjoy.
